PageShift Help

Add a short answer, takeaways, FAQs and a picture

Fill in the extra boxes of a post so readers, Google and AI tools get the answer fast.

Besides the main text, every post has a few extra boxes. They're optional, but they make a post easier to skim, and they're the parts AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Google's answer boxes like to quote.

Box Where it shows on the post
Short answer A box near the top with your question and a direct answer
Key takeaways A short list near the top
FAQs "Frequently asked questions" at the end, and in the page's FAQ structured data
Featured image At the top of the post, on blog cards and when the post is shared

Short answer

The short answer is one question and a 40 to 60 word answer: the single most useful thing your post says.

  1. Open the post (Content → Posts, click its title).
  2. Type the main question in Question (1), for example "How often should a Denver roof be inspected?".
  3. Write the answer in Answer (2). Start with the answer itself, then add one supporting detail. The counter shows the words and turns green between 40 and 60.
  4. Click Update (or Publish).
The Short answer box

The box only appears on your site when both the question and the answer are filled in. To remove it, empty the answer and update.

Key takeaways

Type one takeaway per line in Key takeaways (1). Three is ideal. Keep each one to a single sentence.

FAQs

  1. Type a question in the first FAQ row (2), and its answer in the box under it. Start the answer with a direct answer.
  2. Click + Add FAQ (3) for the next question.
  3. Click Remove under a row to delete it.
  4. Click Update.
Key takeaways and FAQs

On the post, only FAQs with both a question and an answer are shown. Each answer opens when the reader clicks its question.

The "In this article" menu

You don't fill in the table of contents yourself. PageShift builds the "In this article" menu from the post's Heading 2 headings (plus the short answer and FAQs), and each entry jumps to its part of the post. Where it shows depends on your design:

  • PageShift's built-in blog design shows it on the post.
  • In the Blog Sidebar you can add a Table of contents box. See Set up the Blog Sidebar.
  1. In the Featured image box on the right, click Set featured image.
  2. Click a picture in your Media library (1), or click Upload files (3) to add a new one.
  3. Click Use this image (2).
  4. Click Update.
Choosing the featured image

A picture of 1200 × 630 pixels works everywhere. To take it off again, click Remove featured image and update.

Posts from an imported website

If your site was brought in with Import a website, its posts keep the picture they had. The Featured image box then shows Picture from your imported website:

  • To use a different picture, click Set featured image. A featured image always wins.
  • To show no picture, tick Don't show this picture (the post and its blog card show no picture) and update.

To hide or show the imported pictures of many posts at once, tick them in Content → Posts and choose Hide the imported picture or Show the imported picture again under Bulk actions.
