Speed and the page cache

PageShift is built to be fast: fonts load from your own server, pictures are converted to WebP in several sizes, and YouTube videos load only when clicked. System → Settings → Performance holds the few speed settings you can change. Only Administrators can open it.

The page cache

The page cache keeps a ready-made copy of each public page for 15 minutes. Repeat visits skip the slow work, so pages load faster and your hosting copes better with busy days.

1. Tick Turn on the page cache (recommended) (2).
2. Tick Load each page's main picture first (recommended) (3). The big picture at the top of a page (a hero picture or a post's featured image) then loads first, which is what Google's PageSpeed Insights asks for.
3. Click Save.

Both are on by default. Leave them on unless support asks you to turn them off.

Clear the cache

If a page still shows an old version after you saved it:

1. Click Clear cache now (4).
2. Reload the page in your browser. On a computer, press Ctrl + F5 (or Cmd + Shift + R on a Mac) to skip your browser's own copy.

The card also shows how many pages are cached right now.

Refresh PageShift pages

Refresh PageShift pages (1) saves every published page again with the latest improvements in speed, picture sizes and fixes. Your text, designs and drafts don't change.

You rarely need it: it runs by itself once after every update, and the card shows the version it last ran for. Use it if support asks you to, or if pages look different from a newly made page after an update.
