Add a course
Create a course, choose its kind and how students join (free, handled by the school, paid offline or paid online), and set its certificate.
A course is the subject and its content, for example "Homeowner Roof Care 101". It has lessons, quizzes and homework. A course can run several classes (groups of students with a teacher and a schedule), and it can have a public page on your website.
Administrators and school coordinators add courses. A teacher can add courses only if an administrator ticked Can create their own courses for them.
Add a course
- Go to School → Courses, click the Teaching tab, then Add course.
- Type the Name (1) and a Short description: what students learn and who it's for. It's shown on the course page.
- Choose the Kind of course (2): Self-paced (recorded lessons), Live class (taught on Google Meet, Zoom or in a room) or Blended (both).
- Choose How students join (3). See the table below.
- For a paid course, type the Fee (4).
- Choose a Category (subject) (5), or type Or add a new category. Course pages use the same categories, so visitors can browse each one.
- Choose the Certificate rule (further down the form).
- Leave Create a public course page ticked if visitors should be able to find the course. The page is created as a draft.
- Click Add course.
After saving, the This course card shows its classes, students, lessons and public page, with the buttons Course outline and Add a class to this course.
How students join
| Choice | What happens |
|---|---|
| Free | Students join without paying |
| Handled by the school | No payment step. You add the students yourself (good for staff training) |
| Paid offline | Students register and show as Waiting for payment. They pay you by bank transfer, check or cash and send a reference or a photo of the receipt. You mark it paid and the class opens |
| Paid online | Students pay on your website with your Store payment methods. The class opens as soon as it's paid |
Summit Ridge uses Paid offline ($49) for Homeowner Roof Care 101, Handled by the school for Roofing Crew Safety, and Free for the short Gutter and Attic Basics course.
The other options
- New students wait for approval (a teacher or admin approves each one): people who sign up or use a class code wait in a list until someone approves them. Courses paid online open as soon as they're paid, without this step.
- Kid-friendly: big buttons and tiles, stars and one question at a time in this course's quizzes. Each quiz can still choose.
- Certificate: No certificate, When every lesson is done, When every lesson is done and the class grade passes, or Only when a teacher issues it. See Report cards and certificates.
- Book a one-to-one (Cal.com): optional. With the Booking module and Cal.com, students in a class see Book a one-to-one, and the booking becomes a session for them.
The Courses list
Teaching → Courses lists every course with its kind, how students join (and the fee), its classes, its students and whether its public page is Published or a Draft. Use the filters to find a course by kind, way of joining or category.
- Click Add course (1) to add another one.
- Click Outline (2) (or Add lessons for a new course) to work on its lessons. See Lessons and the course outline.
Archive or delete a course
- Archive: open the course and set Status to Archived (kept in records, can't be joined), or tick courses in the list and choose Archive under Bulk actions. Archived courses keep their grades and certificates.
- Delete course: only for a course with no classes or students. Its public page is kept in Course pages; delete it there if you don't need it.
