Connect Search Console and Google Analytics
See your Google clicks, searches, visitors and conversion rate in PageShift, next to your leads, by connecting Google once.
SEO → Performance brings your Google figures into PageShift: how often your site shows in Google and gets clicked, which searches bring people in, how many visitors you have and how many of them become leads. The same tiles can show on your Dashboard.
Who can do this
- Anyone whose role has View performance reports (Search Console, Analytics, leads) can see the report and click Refresh now.
- Only Administrators see the Google connection card and can connect or disconnect Google.
Before you start
PageShift reads your figures with a Google service account: a robot user with read-only access. Creating one takes about 10 minutes, once.
- In Google Cloud Console, create a project (or use one you have) and turn on the Google Search Console API and the Google Analytics Data API.
- Go to IAM & Admin → Service Accounts, create a service account, then open it and choose Keys → Add key → JSON. A
.jsonfile downloads. - In Google Search Console, open your property, go to Settings → Users and permissions and add the service account's email address as a Restricted user.
- In Google Analytics 4, go to Admin → Property access management and add the same address as a Viewer.
Connect Google
- Go to SEO → Performance. The Google connection card says Not connected.
- Choose the JSON file in Service account key (JSON file) (1), or click Or paste the JSON instead (2) and paste its contents.
- Click Save key (3). The message says "Key saved for …" with the service account's address. The key is stored encrypted and never shown again.
- Click Test connection (1). PageShift signs in to Google and lists the Search Console properties shared with the service account.
- Choose your Search Console property (2). "sc-domain:" properties cover your whole domain.
- Type your GA4 Property ID (3): a number like 123456789, found in GA4 → Admin → Property details. (Not the Measurement ID that starts with G-.)
- Click Save and load the report (4). The message says "Saved. Your report is ready below and refreshes every 6 hours." and the badge says Connected.
Read the report
Once connected, the top of SEO → Performance covers the last 28 days (ending 3 days ago, because Google needs time) compared with the 28 days before.
| Tile | What it means |
|---|---|
| Search clicks | Clicks from Google Search to your site. |
| Impressions | How often your pages showed in Google results. |
| Click-through rate | Clicks ÷ impressions. |
| Average position | Your average place in the results. Lower is better. |
| Visitors, Sessions, Engagement rate | From Google Analytics. |
| Leads, Conversion rate | Leads from your site, and leads per 100 sessions. |
Below the tiles: charts of Search clicks per day, Visitors per day and Leads per day, and tables of Top searches, Top pages in Google Search, Most viewed pages and Where visitors come from. With Microsoft Clarity connected, a short Visitor behavior card is added.
The report refreshes every 6 hours by itself. Refresh now loads the latest figures (at most once every 2 minutes).
On the Dashboard
Click Customize dashboard on the Dashboard and add the Performance card. Before Google is connected it shows a Connect Google button.
Disconnect
Click Disconnect Google at the bottom of the card and confirm. The saved key and report are deleted from your site. For full security, also delete the key in Google Cloud.
