Attendance and QR codes
Take attendance by hand, let students mark themselves with the Join button or a QR code, and answer absence requests with a make-up session.
Each session of a class has an attendance list. Students can mark themselves present in two ways: by clicking Join on their session page (for online sessions), or by scanning the session's QR code (for sessions in a room). The teacher can always change any mark.
Teachers and teaching assistants take attendance for their own classes.
Take attendance by hand
- Go to Home → Today and click Attendance next to the session. Or open the class and click Attendance next to a session.
- Click Mark everyone not marked as present (2) to start with everyone present.
- Change the students who weren't: Late, Absent or Excused.
- Click Save attendance (3).
The How column shows how each student was marked: by you, by clicking Join, or Scanned the QR code, with the time.
Attendance with a QR code
For a session in a room, show the session's QR code on a screen or hold up your phone.
- Open the session and click Show the QR code (1).
- Students scan it with their phone camera while signed in on your website.
- They're marked present (or late) at once, and their phone says You're marked present. Thank you!
The screen counts who's in (1), for example 3 of 6 here. The code changes every 30 seconds (2), so a photo of it sent to a friend doesn't work.
The Today page
Home → Today is the teacher's day at a glance: today's sessions with how many attended, the next 7 days, and a To do list with attendance not taken, requests to answer, work to grade and Students who may need help.
Absence requests
Students (or the parents of young learners) can tell you they can't come. On the session page they tap Tell your teacher you can't come, write why, and tap Send.
To answer:
- Click To do → Requests, then Absences. The red number shows how many are waiting.
- Click Answer next to the request.
- Write a Note to the student or parent (1) if you like.
- Tick Add a make-up session for them (2) and choose its date, time and room, if you offer one.
- Click Excuse (3), or Don't excuse.
Excuse marks the student Excused for that session, so it doesn't lower their attendance. They get an email with your answer. A make-up session is a one-on-one session that only they see.
How attendance counts
Attendance is part of the class grade (10% by default): Present and Late count as 100% (Late can count as half in Settings → Grades), Absent counts as 0, and Excused doesn't count. Students see their attendance on Sessions → Past and recordings, and parents on their dashboard.
