Edit the header menu
Add pages and links to your main menu, make submenus and mega menus, and set the header button.
The header menu is the main navigation at the top of every page. You change it in Design → Menus & Footer, on the Header menu tab.
Add items to the menu
On the left, under Add menu items, open a group (1): Pages, Case Studies, Posts, Blog categories or Custom link.
- Tick the pages, posts or categories you want, or for a Custom link type the URL and the Link text.
- Click Add to Menu. The items appear at the bottom of Main menu (header), and "Unsaved changes" shows next to Save Menu.
- Put them in the right place (see below).
- Click Save Menu (5). You see "Menu saved. It's live on every page now."
Order the menu and make submenus
Each item has buttons (2):
- ↑ and ↓ move it up or down.
- → puts it in a submenu of the item above it. ← moves it back out.
- Drag an item by its ⋮⋮ handle (3) to move it; its submenu items move with it.
A submenu item can have its own submenu, so a menu has up to 3 levels. On the site, the submenu opens when visitors point at (or click the small arrow next to) the main item.
Edit or remove an item
Click Edit on an item:
- Navigation label (1) is the text in the menu. Shorter is better, for example "Services" instead of "Roofing Services in Denver, CO".
- Open in a new tab (2) opens the link in a new browser tab. Use it for links to other websites.
- Show as a mega menu (3) (main items only): the submenu opens as wide columns, where each submenu item is a column heading with its own links (the third level) listed under it. A "Mega menu" badge shows next to the item.
- Remove (4) deletes the item. Items under it move one level up.
Click Close, then Save Menu.
The header button
Under Header button (4 in the first screenshot), type the Button text, for example "Get a free quote", and the Button link, for example /contact/. Leave the text empty to hide the button. Click Save Menu.
The menu on phones
On phones and small tablets the menu folds into a button (☰ or Menu). Visitors tap it to open the menu; submenu items show under their main item, indented.
To change the size of submenu text on phones, and the colors of dropdowns, see Submenu, search box and breakpoint styles.
