Classes and schedules
Create a class with a teacher and seats, share its class code, and add its sessions with a weekly schedule.
A class is a group of students taking a course together, with a teacher, a schedule and a number of seats. A course can run many classes, for example a November and a December workshop. Each class has sessions: the dated meetings, in a room or online.
Administrators and school coordinators add and change classes. Teachers see and run the classes they teach.
Create a class
- Go to School → Courses, click People → Classes, then Add class. (Or click Add a class to this course on a course.)
- Choose the Course (1) and the Term (2).
- Type the Class name (3), for example
Saturday Workshop, December, and a short Schedule summary such asSaturdays, 10:00–11:30 AM, Summit Ridge office. Students see the summary in My learning. - Choose the Main teacher (4). Tick Co-teachers or Teaching assistants if others help.
- Type the Seats (5): the most students in this class. Leave it empty for no limit.
- If you like, tick When it's full, students can join a waitlist (first come, first served) and Students who join with the class code wait for approval.
- Click Add class.
Teachers must be added first. See Teachers and roles.
The class page
Click a class to open its page. It has the class details, the Class code, its Sessions, its Quizzes and homework with their dates, and its Students.
- The class code (1) is how students join on their own: they go to
/learn/join/and type it. Click Copy link (2) to copy a link that fills in the code for them. - Untick Students can join with this code (3) to stop new joins. Stops working after and Most students who can join with it limit the code.
- Make a new code (4) replaces the code. The old one stops working.
Under Students, use Add a new student, Import from a spreadsheet or Add students who already have an account. Students waiting for you show Approve and Decline buttons; students on the waitlist show Let in. When a seat opens, the first student on the waitlist moves in by themselves and gets an email.
Add the sessions with a weekly schedule
Add the schedule once: PageShift creates every session and skips your holidays.
- On the class page, click Add a weekly schedule.
- Under Every, tick the day or days (1).
- Set Starts at and Ends at (2).
- Choose the First day (3) and For how many weeks (4), or a Last day instead.
- Type any dates to skip in Also skip these dates (5). Holidays from Settings → Classes and attendance are skipped too.
- Add a Topic, a Meeting link (Google Meet, Zoom or any link) and/or a Room (6) for classes on site.
- Tick the Materials: lessons from the outline shown on each session's page. Add Notes for students if you like, such as
Bring your harness and work gloves. - Click Add the sessions.
To add a single meeting, click Add one session instead. Under Who it's for, you can choose one student for a one-on-one session: only that student sees it and joins it.
Change or cancel sessions
Click All sessions on the class page to see Upcoming and Past (1) sessions.
- Click a session to change its time, link or room, take attendance, or add a Recording link (after the class).
- Tick sessions and use Bulk actions: Cancel, Restore (undo cancel), Set the meeting link or room… or Delete.
- Add a session (2) or Add a weekly schedule (3) adds more.
Students get an email when a coming session is canceled or gets a new time, link or room, and a reminder about a day before each session. You can turn these emails off in Settings → Emails.
