Duplicate, trash and restore pages

Copy a page to start a new one, take a page off your website, and bring it back from the Trash if you change your mind.

Pages are never deleted in one click. Trash takes a page off your website but keeps it, so you can restore it later. Only Delete Permanently removes it for good.

Duplicate a page

Duplicating is the quickest way to make a new page that looks like one you already have, for example a new service page with the same layout as your others.

  1. Go to Content → Pages and point at the page you want to copy.

  2. Click Duplicate (1).

Duplicate and Trash in a page's row
  3. The copy opens as a draft, with "(Copy)" after its title and -copy at the end of its address. The message says Copy created as a draft. Change its title and address, then publish.

  4. Change the Title, then click Edit next to the Permalink and type the new address. See Change a page's address.

  5. Click Edit with PageShift and replace the text and pictures.

  6. Click Publish when it's ready.

The copy keeps everything: sections, design, SEO settings, header and footer choice. Its own revisions start fresh.

You can also start a new page as a copy: on Add New, choose Copy an existing page. See Add a page.

Move a page to the Trash

  1. Go to Content → Pages and point at the page.
  2. Click Trash (2).

The message says "Holiday Hours 2025" moved to the Trash. Visitors who open the page's address now see your "Page not found" page.

You can also click Move to Trash in the Publish box on the page's settings screen.

The homepage and system pages have no Trash link. They are protected, so your website always has a homepage and a "Page not found" page.

Restore a page

  1. Go to Content → Pages and click Trash (1) in the views.
  2. Point at the page and click Restore (2).
The Trash

The page comes back as a draft: the message says it was restored as a draft. Open it, check it, and click Publish to put it back on your website.

Delete a page for good

In the Trash:

  • Delete Permanently (3) removes one page. PageShift asks: Delete this page permanently? This can't be undone.
  • Empty Trash (4) removes every page in the Trash at once, after you confirm.

A permanently deleted page can't be brought back, and its revisions are deleted too. A backup made before you deleted it still has it; see Backups and updates.

Who can do this

Anyone whose role includes Pages and Global Blocks, such as the ready-made Editor role, can duplicate, trash, restore and delete pages.
