Shortcodes and embeds
Place buttons, post lists, forms and outside widgets anywhere with short codes, save your own, and add embeds safely.
A shortcode is a short piece of text in square brackets, such as [posts limit="3"]. Put it in a page, post or content item and visitors see the real thing in its place: here, your 3 latest blog posts. Design → Shortcodes & Embeds lists every shortcode and helps you build them.
Find a shortcode
- The tabs (1) are Shortcodes, Saved shortcodes and Embeds.
- Click a group (2), such as Content, Forms, Media or Store, or type in Search… (3).
- Each card (4) says what the shortcode does, shows its code, and whether it's Used on any page.
The list grows with your modules: Store, Courses and Affiliates add their own shortcodes.
Build and place a shortcode
- On the shortcode's card, click Build.
- Choose its options (2), for example a Button's text, link, style and alignment. The code (1) updates as you go.
- Click Preview (4) to see the result, then Copy (3).
- Paste the code into your page or post, and update it.
In the editors you don't even need this screen: shortcodes are under + Add section → Shortcodes in the page editor, and behind the [ ] button in the post editor.
Save a shortcode by name
When you use the same shortcode on several pages, save it, so you can change it in one place later.
- Build the shortcode, then under Save this shortcode (5) type a Name (letters, numbers and dashes, for example "latest-roof-tips") and a Label.
- Click Save. You see "Saved. Place it anywhere with" and its code, for example
[saved name="latest-roof-tips"]. - Put that code on your pages.
On the Saved shortcodes tab, Copy gives you its code (1). Click Edit (2) to change the options: every page using it updates when you save. Duplicate makes a copy and Delete removes it; pages that used it then show nothing in its place.
Embeds: code from outside services
An embed is code from a service you trust, such as a review widget (Trustindex, Featurable), a calendar or a video player. You paste it once, then show it anywhere with [embed name="…"].
- Open the Embeds tab and click Add embed.
- Type a Name (used in the shortcode) (1), for example "google-reviews", and a Label (2).
- Paste the Code from the service (3).
- Click Save embed (4). You see "Embed saved. Use it anywhere with [embed name="google-reviews"]."
