Create a popup, slide-in, bar or sign-up form
Grow your subscriber list with opt-ins, and choose when, where and on which devices each one shows.
An opt-in is a small sign-up form that turns visitors into subscribers. PageShift has four kinds:
| Type | Where it shows |
|---|---|
| Popup (center of the screen) | Over the page, with a dark background behind it. |
| Slide-in (bottom corner) | A small box in a bottom corner. |
| Bar (top or bottom of the page) | A strip across the top or bottom. |
| Inline (a section you place on a page) | Inside a page, like any other section. |
Find them under Leads & Growth → Popups. Only Administrators can use this screen. To send a free file to people who sign up, see Deliver a lead magnet by email.
Create an opt-in
- Go to Leads & Growth → Popups, open the Opt-ins tab and click Add New.
- Type a Name (1) only you see, for example "Hail checklist popup".
- Choose the Type (2).
- Leave Status (3) on Draft (not shown) while you work on it.
- Choose a Lead magnet (4), or keep None: just subscribe.
- In Content, type the Headline (5), an optional Text and the Button text (6).
- In After they sign up, write what replaces the form: an optional Thank-you headline, the Message, and an optional button (for example Book a free inspection linking to
/contact/). - In Sign-up, choose what to collect and where people go:
- Also ask for their first name
- Add them to Subscribers and Also add them to Leads
- Ask for permission with a checkbox (recommended for the EU and UK): only people who tick it join Subscribers.
- Tags, saved on the subscriber (for example
hail, checklist).
- Click Save.
Choose when and where it shows
Popups, slide-ins and bars have two more boxes. (Inline forms show wherever you place them.)
- Show it (1): After a few seconds, After scrolling part of the page, When they are about to leave (exit intent) or Only when a link or button is clicked.
- Set the number that goes with it, such as Seconds after the page opens (2) or Percent of the page scrolled.
- Don't show again for (days) after it's closed (3) keeps it away from visitors who closed it.
- Under Where to show, choose Every page or Only these pages, and list them (4), one per line.
/blog/*means everything under /blog/. Use Never on these to leave pages out. - Choose Devices (5): Computers and phones, Computers only or Phones only.
For a bar, Bar position offers Bottom of the page or Top of the page. For a click-only popup, any link to #optin- plus its number opens it (the editor shows the exact link).
Check it and put it live
- Click Preview on the site ↗ at the top of the editor. Your home page opens with the opt-in showing at once, even as a draft. Previews don't count as views.
- When you're happy, set Status to Live on the site and click Save.
After signing up, the visitor sees your thank-you content:
On phones, a popup fits the screen width:
Manage your opt-ins
The Opt-ins tab lists each opt-in with its status, where it shows, Views, Sign-ups and Rate.
- Add New (1) starts another opt-in.
- Pause stops one; Go live (2) starts it again.
- Duplicate (3) makes a draft copy named "… (copy)".
- Report (4) opens its own figures with Recent sign-ups.
- Delete removes it and its stats after you confirm.
Place an inline form on a page
- Create an opt-in with the type Inline (a section you place on a page) and the status Live on the site.
- Open the page in the editor, click Add section and open Opt-in forms. Add your form and save the page.
You can also type the shortcode [optin id="3"] (with your opt-in's number) in a text block.
Test two versions
In the A/B test box, tick Test a second version (half of visitors see it) and fill in Version B headline and Version B button text. Each visitor keeps seeing the same version. The table shows Views, Sign-ups and Rate for A and B. Wait for about 100 views of each before picking a winner.
See how they do
The Overview tab shows Views, Sign-ups, Conversion rate, Confirmed their email and lead magnet figures for the period you choose, a chart per day, and tables by device, page and opt-in.
