Backups and updates
Make and download backups, turn on weekly backups, and update PageShift safely.
Make a backup
- Go to System → Settings → Backups.
- Click Back up database now (1). This saves all pages, posts, settings, leads, orders and everything else in the database.
- Click Back up uploads (ZIP) (2) to also save your pictures and files from the Media Library.
- Under Your backups, click a backup's name to download it. Keep a copy off the server, for example on your computer or in cloud storage.
Turn on automatic backups
- Tick Back up the database automatically once a week (3).
- Choose how many to Keep the newest (older ones are deleted).
- Click Save.
Restore a backup
The How to restore box on the Backups screen explains the steps. In short: in your hosting panel, open phpMyAdmin, choose your database, and Import the backup file. If you're not sure, ask your hosting support to restore it for you.
Update PageShift
- Make a backup first (see above).
- Go to System → Settings → Updates. Installed version (1) shows the version you have.
- Under Install an update, click Choose File (2) and pick the update zip, for example
pageshift-update-5.99.44.zip. - Type Your password (3) and click Install update (4).
The update takes about a minute. Visitors see a short "Updating" page meanwhile. PageShift saves the old version first and tests the site afterwards: if something isn't right, it rolls back by itself.
- Run health check tests that your home page, sign-in page and sitemap load.
- Versions you can roll back to lists the saved versions, in case you need to go back.
- Update history lists every update.
