Ways students join
Let students join with a class code, sign up from a course page, wait for approval or on a waitlist, or use seat codes a company paid for.
Besides adding students yourself (see Add students), there are four ways people join on their own. Everything they do happens on your website, at phone size.
| Way | Good for |
|---|---|
| Class code | Everyone in a group you invite: you hand out one code |
| Sign up from the course page | Free and paid-offline courses open to the public |
| Paying online | Courses set to Paid online (see Course payments) |
| Seat codes | A company or another business that paid for several seats |
Join with a class code
Every class has a code on its page (see Classes and schedules). Give students the code, or click Copy link and send them the link.
- The student opens
/learn/join/and types the code, or opens your link. - They see the course, class, schedule, teacher and fee.
- New students fill in their name, email and a password and tap Create my account and join. Students who already have an account sign in and tap Join this class.
For a paid-offline course, they're registered and see Waiting for payment with a Send proof of payment button. For free and school-handled courses, the class opens right away, unless it needs approval.
Sign up from the course page
Turn on Let visitors sign up for free and paid-offline courses from the course page in Settings → School. Course pages then show Sign up for this course (free) or Register for this course (paid offline). Each course also gets a Sign-up link (shown in its This course card) that you can share.
Sign-ups caught by the spam checks go to People → Students → Spam, with the reason. Click Approve for a real person, or Delete (or Delete and block the domain). To stop an address or a whole domain from signing up, add it under Settings → Blocked emails and domains.
Approval and the waitlist
- Approval: tick New students wait for approval on the course, or Students who join with the class code wait for approval on the class. New students then appear under Students → Waiting for approval, and on the class page with Approve and Decline. The Overview counts them under Waiting for approval.
- Waitlist: on a class with Seats and When it's full, students can join a waitlist ticked, students who join a full class see Join the waitlist. When a seat opens, the first one moves in by themselves and gets an email (A seat opened). You can also click Let in next to a student on the waitlist.
Seat codes
Seat codes are one-time codes for seats someone else paid for, for example a property manager who buys 10 places in Homeowner Roof Care 101 for their tenants. Each code lets one person join without approval or payment.
Click the Payments tab, then Seat codes (1), then Make seat codes (2).
The Seat codes list On the form, choose the Course (1) and, if you like, a Class (2).
Type How many codes (3), up to 500 at a time.
Set the Last day to use them (4) if they should run out.
Type who they're For (5), for example
Front Range Property Management: 10 seats for their tenants.Click Make the codes.
The next screen shows every code, ready to Print the unused codes or Export (spreadsheet) to send to the buyer. Each person types their code on the Join page. The Seat codes list shows how many of each batch are Used.
